Having unfortunately missed the April 8th Skype session, I have attempted to catch up by reading everyone's blog. That is to say everyone I can find an address for and the list posted from Sunday. Who else out there is on module 2?. I could do with some interaction here. Module twos are you all writing your plans? have you chosen your topic? How much reading have you done? any tips for drawing it together ? anyone time to chat on Skype this week ?
Reflections are the most helpful tool when trying to decide what I have discovered and what I need to do. Making up my own mind has always been a journey for me. I like to consider, weigh it up, compare, contrast, what if, maybe if ; no not indecisive just cautious by nature; making sure that I understand where am going; what about you module twos? how do you deal with your reflections and the character traits which make you ?
Hi Katherine, I don't know if I'd be any help for Module Two as I did it a year ago and I don't know if it's changed but I'm happy to have a chat if you don't get any other offers. Like you, reflection has been a positive tool. I found out before last summer how indecisive I've become in class as well as out. In class, I wonder if it's been a tactic to include the pupils (inclusive teaching) or is it because I can't make my mind up about something? The latter bothers me because I associate that with not being motivated (I don't know why). I'm embracing what I'm finding out about myself and it provides me with a better understanding of the person I was,am now and who I'd like to be. Sam

ReplyDeleteHi Katherine, I'm on Module two and feeling the same things as you. I think I have chosen a subject but how to word this into a research question is a little more difficult.
ReplyDeleteI went back over my reflections to see the themes that kept reoccurring and considering why they were important to me and how they may be important for how I see the future and how the MA will help with that. I have a particular interest in technique delivery and how this has changed and continues to change in dance training and it seemed to be a good place to start and from which to ask more questions.
I think making up your mind on something is always difficult as its not something someone else can do for you and is therefore a leap into the unknown, which is scary. If you find something that interests you or you feel you need to reflect upon more I would say go with it, ask the questions, it may develop another line of enquiry that works better for you or establish that you need to re-think, either way I would say it's still useful.

But as far as where I am in my project, I'm doing some reading but I'm working on putting it into written form right now. So a a weird mix of thinking, reading, and writing all at once. Haven't started the module reflection essay yet; waiting until I finish the proposal draft so I have more to reflect on.
ReplyDeleteI too am very cautious and thoughtful like you are, mixed with the occasional total spontaneity, but once my mind is truly made up, it's made up. It's very useful in research like this, actually. It's also a very useful trait when resisting peer pressure (you have to buy this right!! now!! or!! else!!), because I always sit and think over big decisions. Sometimes it takes a while longer than expected and people (including me) get frustrated, but by and large it leads to my making pretty good decisions, so it's a fair tradeoff I think.
I think I could fit in a short skype, if you're still looking to chat! I leave on Friday afternoon out of town though so it would have to be before then, or alternately this weekend after I arrive.
